Ayamonte

The locals say it is the meeting of the River Guadiana with the sea that gives this town its effervescent, vibrant, up beat character. Certainly it epitomizes the best of Spanish culture through a lively, cheerful and positive ambience.
Take an evening stroll through Plaza Angustias to see society functioning at its best. Babies and toddlers mix with youngsters on skates and bikes or playing football while family, friends and neighbours catch up on the latest news, their animated chatter and laughter acting as a signal to the birds high in the palms to compete with their own evening tribute to the day. While along from the square, the sun dips down across the river to set over Portugal.
On a practical level, the town, like others in the area is self-sustaining and set back from the coast. We believe that these two important factors combined with the provinces total commitment to conservation and carefully controlled planning will uniquely prevent the area from losing its identity and going down the path of the other Costas.
Ayamonte has all the amenities associated with a regional centre. There are banks, shops, doctors, dentists, lawyers and architects as well as an up and coming marina, fishing boats and a ferry which has miraculously survived the introduction of the awesome new bridge which now dramatically spans the river to Portugal.
There are many inviting bars and restaurants lining the cobbled streets serving the most delicious local tapas, fresh fish and local beer and wine. Each year the town hosts the International Music Festival giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of music in a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
